A Chama da Ascensão

 

Today, Nelson Mandela, affectionately referred to as Madiba, would have turned 101. His legacy lives on in the hearts of a nation and a global community who have found inspiration and hope from the way that he lived his life. As a South African I am immensely proud of what we, as a nation achieved with Madiba’s leadership, courage and wisdom. Mandela taught us that change is almost always possible, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. His truth acts as a touchstone for us all encouraging us to ‘speak truth to power, raise the voices of the voiceless and offer hope where there is despair’.

On the 18th of July each year we celebrate Madiba’s birthday by acting on the idea that each person has the power to change the world by making a difference in their community. This is an opportunity for all to take action and inspire change.

‘For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.’
